Dear All
We initially intended to host all the slides locally on our website.
However, due to some challenges and issues arising, we are sharing these on this email in the interest of time.
See attached.
Apologies for the delay

just to be clear, we didn’t really discuss quad9 at the peering meeting, but some people asked me about it, and i gave my generic slide deck to keessun for distribution. i’m happy to answer questions that you may have around this; it seems really silly to me that you have people sending their DNS traffic to servers that are overseas, when you have this available at your local IX.
in brief, quad9: # does malware filtering (only malware, nothing else) # respects your privacy (ie. no logging of src ip at all) # has a node in mauritius, but is well anycast globally :-)
happy to take questions unicast.

Dear Nishal/Keessun,
Very interesting.
How can MIXP benefits from the Quad9?
Can we host this at the MIXP?
Regards Ganesh

that’s correct; that’s willy. this has been live at the MIXP since nov 2017 actually. (i used some friends in mauritius at the time, as part of the beta-testing pool!)
in my conversations last week, it was also clear that folks weren’t aware that there were DNS roots in mauritius as well. or what the URL to the looking glass was :-) so, what’s evident is that there’s a lack of understanding around what services *are* at the IX, and how these can benefit the local community :-) fortunately, these are easy issues to fix.
remember that the MIXP is not going to succeed; and not bring you the economic benefits we discussed, if you (as an individual network) don’t put in the effort to make this work for you. that means using the services, adding new ones; and, of course peering. start by checking that your network is peering with the route-servers, and the route-collector. here’s the url: https://lg.mixp.org
